The former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Jokotola Pelumi, has been appointed as the chairman of the state screening committee for the Action Congress towards the forthcoming primaries of the party and the local government elections proper.
The former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Jokotola Pelumi, has been appointed as the chairman of the state screening committee for the Action Congress towards the forthcoming primaries of the party and the local government elections proper.
Appointed alongside five others, the former lawmaker and his team are to ensure that candidates of the party for the chairmanship and councillorship positions in all the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) are people of clean moral and financial records.
The committee, which commences its nine-day screening exercise today, at the party's state secretariat on Acme Road, Ogba, is also to look into the academic qualifications and age claims of aspirants, as well as sundry issues relating to the clearance of any candidate for the elections.
Other members of the screening committee are; Barrister David Adeyemi, who is the secretary; Alhaji Yomi Ajibodu; Chief Tunde Adams; Alhaji Dotun Adegbola and Prince Dele Kosoko.
The list of the party's state electoral committee was also made available with Ibrahim Kayode Adeyemi as the chairman, Dr. Bunmi Omosehindemi as secretary with Dr. Sina Fawole, Alhaja Sherifat Seidu, Otunba Tayo Oyemade, Barrister Wasiu Banjo and Chief Victor Olaleye as members.
The party's State Appeal Committee is chaired by the former Deputy Governor of the state, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, with Barrister Hakeem Giwa as secretary.
Other members of the committee include; Alhaji R.A. Bankole, Alhaji Ganiyu Badmus and Chief Olu Bakare. Meanwhile, the Lagos Action Congress has commenced readjustment in local governments and wards serving as venues of the party primaries, following protests from party followers across the state.
The state secretary of the party, Primate Charles Odugbesi, told P.M.News that the readjustment and relocation was necessary to ensure transparency on the part of the party. He said that the new venues would be announced before the end of this week.
In a related development, party chairmen for the Action Congress (AC) in all the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) were today inaugurated at the state party secretariat by the state chairman, Otunba Henry Oladele Ajomale.
