Africa Independent Television, (AIT), ace Igbo broadcaster, Chris Obinna Anokuru, is dead.

The popular O'jemba presenter died yesterday, at an undisclosed hospital, after a long battle with a kidney-related problem, which his doctor confirmed to have resulted in renal failure.

Speaking with P.M.News at their 21, Oloja Street residence, off Ajasa-Command Road, Ipaja, yesterday, his younger brother, Longinus Chimezie, confirmed Anokuru's death, saying that the doctor called him at 2:30 a.m. yesterday, and informed him of his brother's death.

Says Amaechi: 'My brother had been seriously sick for the past two weeks and we had taken him to several hospitals where they claimed they could not detect his ailment.

'We transferred him to the present hospital where the doctor confirmed that he died of renal failure due to complications from kidney infection.'

As at the time of our visit, the widow, Joy, was still in shock over the death. She was looking blankly at the horde of sympathisers who thronged their home following the news of 'O'jemba's' death.

Neighbours described the late Anokuru, who would have been 47 on 5 December, as a very loving, caring and cheerful prominent figure in their vicinity. They all said he would be fondly missed.

The Igbo presenter would equally be missed by his colleagues in the media, especially in the broadcast segment. He is survived by a wife and two children (a boy and a girl). His remains have since been deposited at a Lagos mortuary, pending burial arrangements.
