60-Year-Old Man Electrocuted

A 60-year-old man, Mr. Joseph Fakunle, a.k.a. Second Jesus, of 9, Bola Adegboro Street, Alapare, Ketu, was electrocuted last Friday night, along Adisa-Balogun Street, Alapere, Lagos.

A 60-year-old man, Mr. Joseph Fakunle, a.k.a. Second Jesus, of 9, Bola Adegboro Street, Alapare, Ketu, was electrocuted last Friday night, along Adisa-Balogun Street, Alapere, Lagos.

When P.M.News visited the house of the deceased, one of his children, Peter Joseph, explained how the incident occurred.

'On Friday night, my father left home for vigil at Gospel Apostolic Church, Alapare, which is very close to our house and surprisingly, people came shortly after he left home to inform us that he had died. I did not believe them until I got there and saw his lifeless body with a lot of bread beside him, I tried to rush at him, but was dragged back by the people, saying the live electric wire would electrocute me too,' he narrated.

P.M. News gathered that the man left the church when the service had not commenced to buy bread and it was on his way back that he met his untimely death.

Speaking with P.M.News, the deceased's wife, Comfort, who was still in shock, said amid sobs, 'I don't believe what I'm hearing, they said my husband is dead, what killed him? He left me at home on Friday night, bade me bye-bye and left for the vigil at a nearby church, are you now saying I won't see my husband again?'

The first son of the deceased, who is based at Ibadan, but got the information on phone, said 'It was just like a dream when I had a phone call around 7.30 a.m. on Saturday, that my father had died. I thought it was a natural death, so I asked if I should start preparing for the burial at home there, as we hail from Ibadan and if the corpse would be brought home that day, but was informed that the matter had been reported to the police and would take some time before the corpse would be buried. So I just had to come down quickly. My brother, that was how I landed in Lagos not minding the heavy downpour on that day. On getting home, I saw my father where he was still lying, it was then that I knew that he died from the negligence of PHCN officials.'

According to one of the elders in the area who is also an executive member of Adisa Balogun Estate Community Development Association, 'PHCN officials should be blamed for this man's death. This wire had dropped for the past five days and we went to their office at Shanu-Aje Street, beside Agboyi-Ketu LCDA office, and spoke with their boss, one Mr. Okanlawon, who told us that until the rain stopped, he would not send anybody to the area, so the man should be held responsible, he is not a good man at all.' The body of the deceased, survived by wife and six children, has been deposited at Omega Private Mortuary, Ogudu.
