Lagos Seeks Help For The Disabled

Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Opeyemi Bamidele, has made a case for physically challenged persons on board the state government-owned Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses.

Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Opeyemi Bamidele, has made a case for physically challenged persons on board the state government-owned Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses.

Bamidele, in an appeal, urged commuters of BRT buses to always give preference to those special persons by offering them their seats.

The commissioner advised commuters not to seek individual pleasure, but work collectively for the overall interest of everybody in the society, including the physically challenged persons.

He also pleaded with commuters to give up their seats to persons like the aged, pregnant women, the sick and those considered to be special or venerable people, pointing out that even our culture accorded respect to the aged.

The commissioner said more BRT buses would be brought in by government to complement the 220 buses presently in its fleet, adding that buses with special seats designed to suit the needs of physically challenged persons are on the way.

Similarly, Bamidele said town planners, architects and other professionals have been sensitised on the need to consider special persons in the provision of infrastructure.

He expressed government's readiness to provide amenities for every member of the society, irrespective of their physical conditions, so that everyone will have the opportunity to achieve greatness in his or her chosen field.
