When our correspondent moved round the town after a recent rainfall, the situation was very critical, as water flooded all the roads, leaving no space on either part of the road.
Some residents who spoke with P.M.News frowned at the way the state government had neglected them for the past nine years.
Mr. Shakiru Adebayo, a school teacher, said 'government is not looking at the flood direction, instead, it engages itself in inflicting more hardship on the people. Imagine how the rain is destroying our properties and the local government does not have anything to do, rather, it is busy chasing okada riders about.'
Another resident simply called Iya Ibeji, said 'I don't understand them. When Governor Daniel was campaigning for the second term, he promised to see to the issue of drainages in Ijebu-Ode and its environs as that was the major problem facing the area. But since he assumed office, he has not done anything towards that, instead, he is quarrelling with the lawmakers and everybody in the state. There is nothing these people will offer us again, let us all put our faith in God.'
A retired civil servant, Chief Hassan, said 'these people know what they supposed to do. Imagine a big city like Ijebu-ode to be in this shameful condition and we have representatives at both federal, state and local levels, what are they doing there? Nothing. The local government chairman has not done anything praise worthy; no good road, no water, no electricity, while security is total zero. I will advise him to wake up from his slumber and perform.'
Other residents who spoke with our correspondent reacted in the same vein with the earlier speakers calling on the LG boss, Giwa Mufu Oseni, to start implementing projects that will be of great benefit to the people.
They also advised the chairman to take a look around the town and see the level of damages the recent rainfall had caused, attributing the damages to bad drainage and lack of maintenance of the old ones constructed over 30 years ago by the administration of Giwa Bisi Fadipe.
Some residents, however, blamed some people who are of the habit of dumping refuse in the drainage, especially during rainy season, calling on the council chairman to take drastic steps in curbing the acts and punish offenders so as to serve as deterrent to others.
Efforts by our correspondent to get the reaction of the council chairman, Giwa Mufutau Oseni, proved abortive as he was said to be out of town.
