Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), Mrs Farida Waziri, directed operatives of the commission to ensure that suspects are not kept beyond the permissible legal limit of 48 hours before being released on bail or charged to court.

She has also tasked all officers of the commission to be diligent, focused and proactive in the discharge of their duties.
EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Femi Babafemi, said in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, that she gave the admonition while on a familiarization visit to all units of the commission in the Lagos zonal office.
The statement which noted that Waziri frowned against laziness, sloppiness and complacence among officers of the commission, quoted her as saying: 'There is no need to wait for a petition before digging deep into what individuals, organizations and all tiers of government are doing. We should initiate investigations into their activities on our own and bring any fraudulent deals into the open."
It reads further: 'She also charged staff of the Commission to be exemplary in their conduct and be above board in order to be on a higher moral pedestal in their dealings with members of the public.
In another vein, Mrs Waziri reminded officials of the need to respect rights of their suspects by charging them to court within 48 hours.
'We cannot afford to be keeping suspects beyond what the law allows. The rule of law is sacred and we should regard it as such," she emphasized. The familiarization tour of units in the Lagos office took her through major departments and units like Accounts, Administration, Media, Information and Communication Technology, Advance Fee Fraud, Economic Governance, Legal and General Investigation.
The EFCC boss was warmly received by her staff who freely expressed their needs to her and identified with her repositioning initiatives for the EFCC. She was accompanied by key officers of the EFCC on the tour."
