Gunmen in obvious disrespect for the traditional institution have kidnapped a royal father in Rivers State.
The royal victim is Eze Rising Ekwenna, traditional ruler of Rumuolumeni community in the Obio/Akpor local government area of the state.
He was abducted from his palace at about 9 p.m. on Wednesday by seven unknown armed men.
Sources stated that the royal father had returned from a meeting and was undressing when the gunmen stormed his palace and took him away to an unknown destination.
The hoodlums were said to have escaped with their prized victim through the nearby waterway.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs. Rita Inoma-Abbey (DSP) said the hunt for the gunmen had started.
No group has claimed responsibility for the incident.
Usually, the hostage-takers would call the family of their victim after hours of suspense to demand ransom that run into scores of millions of naira.
