The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has enjoined the National Assembly, state Houses of Assembly, and well-meaning Nigerians, to as a matter of urgency, impress it upon the Federal Government to respect an earlier agreement it reached with the Nigeria Union of Teachers over the teachers' demand for the implementation of the Teachers' Salary Scale in the interest of our suffering children.

In a release signed by its National Secretary, Alhaji Sani Suleiman, the association condemned the attitude of the Federal Government over its non-chalant attitude to the teachers' demand for the implementation of the salary scale.

According to the association, no nation could progress or develop by showing luke-warm attitude to the educational needs of her children who are the leaders of tomorrow. Federal Government should respect an earlier agreement reached with the NUT and create an enabling environment to resolve the matter without further delay so as to prevent total collapse of education at the grass root.

'Government must do everything possible to provide good working conditions for teachers. We appeal to the lawmakers, especially their education committees, and well-meaning individuals to intervene so as to end the strike"

Meanwhile, private school owners based in Lagos has urged the Federal Government to act fast on the issue with Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), in order not to jeopardise the future of the youth.
Mrs Pupolola Atoyebi, the prosprietress of Trinity Dominion School, located at Amuwo Odofin, Lagos State, made this call at the weekend, during the end of the session party and prize giving for the outstanding student in the school.

'The people that will suffer in the battle between NUT and Government are the youths, so government should not close its eyes as if nothing is happening in the educational sector while NUT should also look for some strategy to make sure that their demands are met without having adverse effect on the youths of the country."

Atoyebi also implored the parents not to fold their hands in the current situation in educational sector urging them to join hands with NUT to press for their demand, so that government can see it as a challenge they must rise up to and provide appropriate measure to prevent such occurrence in the future.
Speaking further, the proprietress pleaded with parents to be more committed in terms of caring, loving and guiding the pupils. In order to make sure that they were not idle by finding alternative means of engaging their children pending the time the matter will be resolved because an idle hand is the devil's workshop.
