Former Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, currently standing trial on criminal charges bordering on money laundering was on Thursday granted permission to travel abroad for medical treatment.
Former Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, currently standing trial on criminal charges bordering on money laundering was on Thursday granted permission to travel abroad for medical treatment.
The order granted by Justice Tijani Abubakar followed the application brought by Fayose praying the trial judge to accede to his request.
Justice Tijani, however, pronounced that those who stood sureties for the former governor must swear to affidavits, upon his return to the country.
Fayose had averred among others that he would come back for his trial after the completion of his medical treatment.
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had slammed charges against Fayose for his alleged involvement in the illegal transfer of money amounting to over N1 billion, meant for the poultry project in the state.
He had also pleaded not quilty to the charges, while his efforts to quash the charges, recently failed as the court dismissed the application.
A similar application brought by the former governor of Enugu State had earlier been granted by the court.
