Kogi community rejects boundary adjustment

Ijumu-Oke Development Association, in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, has rejected the adjustment of the boundary between Kogi and Ondo states carried out by the National Boundary Commission.

Ijumu-Oke Development Association, in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, has rejected the adjustment of the boundary between Kogi and Ondo states carried out by the National Boundary Commission.

The adjustment was effected by the commission in continuation of efforts to resolve the age-long boundary dispute between Ayere in Kogi State and Akunu in Ondo State.
In a communiqué, issued at the end of its biannual general meeting at Aduge-Ijumu, the association said the adjustment did violence to historical facts and the principle of natural justice. The association said the commission, in the exercise, awarded to Ondo State, areas of land not claimed in the petition of the Akunu community.

The association further contended that the adjustment also robbed the people of Ayere of prime land on which they had depended for ages for their livelihood.
It called on the Federal Government to set up a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to look into the dispute so as to forestall any threat to peace in the area.

The association also thanked the Kogi State government for awarding contract for the rehabilitation of the Kabba-Ogidi-Ayere road but decried the incompetence of the contractor. It therefore appealed to the government to revoke the contract and re-award it to another contractor.
