No power probe report with us - EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that it is not in possession of the report of the House of Representatives Committee that recently conducted a probe of the power sector as being insinuated in media reports.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that it is not in possession of the report of the House of Representatives Committee that recently conducted a probe of the power sector as being insinuated in media reports.

The clarification, according to a statement signed by the commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Femi Babafemi, became necessary following public enquiries and recent media reports on actions being taken by the anti-graft agency on certain individuals mentioned in the alleged report.

“Since we don’t have a copy of the report yet, it will be difficult for the commission to react to insinuations in media reports. This is why we have consistently told all those who have been calling to enquire about our reaction to recommendations in the report that we can only act on such when we have a copy of the document. But at the moment, there is no such thing.

When there is any such development, the commission will not shy away from its statutory responsibility, and as it is the style of the present leadership of the anti-graft agency to be open on all issues at all times, our actions on such will be made public,” the statement said.
The commission added: “It was discovered that our decision to keep quiet on the issue since it is not yet in our domain has already led to various insinuations and speculations, especially in the media and this is why this clarification is necessary to lay to rest all such.”

The statement urged the media to always show understanding in situations like this, adding that the commission is well disposed towards making information available to the public through the media on all its activities.
