Be wary of ex-generals, youth group warns confab •Vows to resist Obasanjo's third term coming

Delegates from the South-West region of the country have been urged to be wary of former military Generals, who now take politics as their pastime from hijacking the polity come 2007.

Delegates from the South-West region of the country have been urged to be wary of former military Generals, who now take politics as their pastime from hijacking the polity come 2007.

In a statement issued by the Yoruba Youth Alliance (YYC) and signed by its Chairman, Mr. Dayo Ajibola, the group also called on the delegates to do everything possible to frustrate the alleged third term bid of President Olusegun Obasanjo, saying that such plan was not part of Yoruba agenda.

The group, which also criticised the anti-corruption crusade of the Obasanjo administration for not being holistic in its execution, pointed out that the only way Nigeria's nascent democracy could survive was the emergence of a real civilian president in Year 2007.

"In fact, we are fed up with the military hang over of President Olusegun Obasanjo. Six years after, a democratically elected president still finds it difficult to do the wishes of the people or subject himself to the Legislative arm of governemnt by being constitutional in his acts and actions.

"So, the best thing the confab delegates can do for the survival of this country is to make it very impossible for ex-military rulers and ex-generals to emerge as president come 2007.
"What we have seen and experienced under President Obasanjo is more than enough", the group stated.
On the third term ambition of President Obasanjo, the group stated that the plan would be resisted as it was done in the past.
"We hereby declare that any attempt by Obasanjo and his cronies to attempt a sit tight agenda in 2007 would be violently resisted by us, moreso, when we have resolved not to allow any past military coupist to rule over us again. Enough is enough", the statement read.
