Three Nigerian lawyers, this morning described as curious the verdict of the Osun State Election Petitions Tribunal which favoured Olagunsoye Oyinlola, the state governor.
The legal practitioners include Dr. Sam Amadi of the Ken Nnamani Centre for Leadership and Development, Mr. Wale Adebayo and Mr. Henry Iyanya.
According to Dr. Sam, the least expected of the Thomas Naron-led tribunal would have been to stop the judgement pending their own reaction to the allegation of their romance with the Osun State government officials. He said the allegations were too grave to have been ignored by the tribunal's officials.
'A normal judge should have reacted. He should have been moral enough," he said. For Iyanya, it was curious for the tribunal to give judgement despite having been accused of such serious offence. 'Why were they more in a hurry than the petitioner who should have been in haste? The judgement to me is invalid. When a judge is said to be sending text messages and calls, it is a criminal offence," Iyanya said.
While supporting the handling of the case by the Court of Appeal, Adebayo added that if the allegation happened to be true, 'I don't see the National Judicial Council sitting more than once before taking a decision."
