Four members of an armed robbery gang, which has been terrorisng the residents of Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, and other towns in the state, have been killed following a gun duel with the anti-robbery squad in the state.
Four members of an armed robbery gang, which has been terrorisng the residents of Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, and other towns in the state, have been killed following a gun duel with the anti-robbery squad in the state.
The robbers were operating along the Ikot Ekpene -Aba Road yesterday evening when they met their waterloo. Sources said the four robbers died on the spot while other members of the gang escaped with bullet wounds.
The robbers, an eye witness told P.M.News, were going from house to house along the Ikot -Ekpene-Aba road dispossessing residents of the town of their money and other valuables when the police, who responded to a distress call, stormed the place and a gun fight ensued between the police and the robbers.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Akwa Ibom State Command, Mr. Robert Ngban, said the robbers have been committing 'atrocities" across the state and called on members of the public on useful information on the robbers to provide same to the police. As at press time, the identities of the dead robbers were yet to be ascertained.
