The Management of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency and the Road Sector Development Team, on Friday, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding for the development of output and performance-based contracts.
According to a statement signed by the Chief Press Officer FERMA, Mrs. M. M. Sanusi, and made available to our correspondent in Abuja, the objective of the MoU was to enhance road maintenance.
The statement noted that the RSDT was recently established by the Federal Ministry of Transportation to carry out the planning and implementation of the Federal Roads Development Project supported by the World Bank.
The strategy for the introduction of OPRC is a core component of the project in which the RSDT Development Team has gained considerable experience.
It will be recalled that FERMA recently adopted the output and performance-based contract approach for selected roads.
The statement added, 'The objective of the OPRC approach to road maintenance is to ensure that all existing roads are in good condition and those recently constructed or rehabilitated are maintained and kept in their original state of construction to provide optimal serviceability in the post construction/rehabilitation years."
It added that FERMA was technically collaborating with RSDT in the procuring process of the OPRC to the point of award.
