The move by some members of the Taraba State House of Assembly to remove the Speaker, Barrister Istifanun Haruna Gbana, has been foiled.
Six out of the 24 member-House began moves for the impeachment of the Speaker following allegations that the Speaker was manipulating and converting contracts meant for the members of the House of Assembly to himself.
Consequently, the six members endorsed the impeachment move and impressed it on other members to endorse the impeachment notice.
At an emergency meeting of the House today, the member representing Mbamga constituency, Hon. Peter Abel Diya, who spoke on behalf of the 18 members, said the move by the six members calling for the removal of the Speaker was null and void, adding that the remaining 18 of the members endorsed a vote of confidence in favour of the Speaker. Hon. Diya added that the allegation brought against the Speaker were not only malicious but frivolous and baseless.
