Bad Day For Robbers' Armourer

A suspected robbers' armourer has been arrested, and he has made confessional statements to the police on how he keeps guns and ammunition in his one-room apartment for members of his gang.

A suspected robbers' armourer has been arrested, and he has made confessional statements to the police on how he keeps guns and ammunition in his one-room apartment for members of his gang.

Police sources told P.M.News that the suspect, identified as Sunday Adebayo, 24, a native of Iyin-Ekiti, is a member of a robbery gang that terrorises the Southwestern states.

He was arrested by police detectives attached to Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Oyo State command, after his name was mentioned by Akanbi Adetokunbo, another robbery suspect, earlier arrested along Ibadan-Abeokuta road.

Akanbi was driving a Toyota Camry car snatched by the gang at Bodija, Ibadan, when he was arrested.

Akanbi told the police that Adebayo was the gang's armourer, and when the police stormed Adebayo's one-room apartment at Ajibode village, near Ibadan, they recovered 126 live cartridges, 1 English cut-to-size double barrel gun, 1 locally made single barrel gun and two pump action guns. The suspect confirmed to P.M.News that he is his gang's armourer.

'I often keep these guns in my room because it is safer here. I have led the police to the shop of our leader (Henry) who owns a boutique at Dugbe area of Ibadan. And when he was not seen there, I later took them to Ado-Ekiti where he owns a house, but unfortunately he was nowhere to be found," he said.

According to the Oyo State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Bisi Okuwobi, 'We are on the trail of other members of the gang and we also implore our people to always co-operate with the police, giving useful information about the hideouts of these criminals."
