The Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Akala, will play host to South-West governors and prominent Yoruba traditional rulers, as part of efforts to use the forthcoming World Yoruba Festival of Arts and Culture (WOFEYAC) to stimulate unity, growth and development for the zone.
This gathering of eminent Yoruba leaders, being convened by Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State, is a follow-up to an earlier one at Ile-Ife, where over 40 traditional rulers agreed that the festival be used to foster unity and understanding.
According to the Chief Organiser of WOFEYAC, Alao Adedayo, Publisher of ALAROYE Group of Newspapers, there is the need to continually bring the governors, prominent traditional rulers and leaders together and discuss if the objectives of the festival are to be achieved.
'We started this programe in Abeokuta, then we moved to Lagos and Ile-Ife. Our next stop is Ibadan. All we are doing is to ensure that the World Yoruba Festival is devoid of political insinuations and traditional bickering.
'It is a programme for all Yoruba people wherever they may be in the world, and our governors, traditional rulers and leaders must be there to direct the affairs," Adedayo emphasized.
The 1 August gathering at the Cultural Centre, Ibadan, is not going to be about talks alone, arts and culture of the people will be exhibited as performers from Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo and Osun will showcase the heritage of the Yoruba.
Otunba Alao-Akala is enthusiastic about the event, saying whatever will bring the Yoruba people together and make development possible should be the concern of all.
