As the teachers' nationwide strike enters the fourth week, they have resolved to reposition themselves by seeking divine intervention through fasting and praying at designated centres.
Toward this end, teachers nationwide have set aside Wednesday as a day to fast and pray, seeking God's intervention in the present face-off with the Federal Government over improved welfare package.
According to the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) chairman in Lagos state, Comrade Michael Alogba, teachers were going into the fasting and prayer sessions with faith in God to touch the heart of the government officials who had hitherto been indifferent to the plight of the teachers.
Alogba, who doubles as chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, disclosed to P.M.News that teachers would converge on designated centres in each of the 20 Local Education Districts (LED) in the state.
As at the time of filing this report, Alogba told P.M.News that another crucial meeting was about holding to discuss the latest development regarding their demand for the implementation of the Teachers' Salary Scale (TSS).
Some of the designated prayer centres, according to the NUT chairman, are Oye Primary School, Mushin, for all teachers in Mushin Local Government, and St. Thomas Primary School, Badagry, for the teachers in Badary and its environs.
The present struggle for the implementation of TSS started with a three-day nationwide warning strike by teachers between 11-13 June.
Not satisfied with the reaction of government to the warning strike, the national headquarters of the NUT called all teachers out on a nationwide strike on 30 June.
