Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has said the Third Mainland Bridge will not be closed to traffic as a result of the proposed repair work on the bridge because of the inconvenience it will cause Lagosians.
He gave this assurance in Abuja on Thursday when he spoke to State House correspondents after a meeting of the National Economic Council, pointing out that the authorities would look for a way of managing the traffic for the duration of the repair work.
Saying the state government has been holding series of meetings with Federal Government officials on the issue, he explained that several options were being considered on how to ease the stress which might arise from the repair work on the bridge.
His administration, he further explained, would look at the various options, including adopting the odd and even number which was in operation in the city in the eighties before coming up with a final decision on the matter.
To avoid hardship on motorists and commuters during the repair work on the bridge, he underscored the need for the number of vehicles plying Lagos roads to be reduced, assuring that everything possible would be done to ease the people's tension in that regard.
