Ahead of the Court of Appeal ruling on Tuesday over the appeal filed by the President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, indications emerged yesterday in Abuja that the camp of senators working to take over the position of the Senate Presidency may have experienced a major crack that has created a wide gulf amongst them.

A dependable source told the Sunday Sun that while one of the main contenders for the position, Senator George Akume is busy with his campaign arrangements, two of his supporters have pulled out to launch their own separate campaigns since Friday night, thus leaving other members of the group in a confused state as to the direction to take.
Two of the members of the group, namely Senators John Shagaya (Plateau) and Adamu Sidi Ali (FCT) who were hitherto loyal members of the Akume's group may have decided to pull out of the group owing to what they perceived as overt demonstration of greed for positions without an articulate programme of action for the Senate.
While Senator Shagaya who was ousted as Chairman of Northern Senators Forum by the pro-Mark Senators is said to have commenced a subtle campaign for Senator Mark's position with the stand that his careful study of Senator George Akume at very close range, It is obvious that he (Akume) is only interested in the position without any programme of action and direction for the Senate.
On the other hand, Senator Sidi Ali who just bounced back to the National Assembly following the re-run election conducted by INEC for the FCT, was quoted to have told his supporters that he was monitoring the development in Jos before he would launch his campaign for the position.
The pulling out of the duo is said to have further depleted the camp of Akume, who has equally taken his campaign to some governors to assist him in convincing senators from their states to support his ambition.
