A former Governor of Anambra State, Dr Chris Ngige, has denied speculations that he was shot by gunmen in his apartment in Maryland, United States on Wednesday.
Ngige, who spoke from the United States on Thursday through his aide, Mr. Fred Chukwuelobe, said the story of the attack was not true and should be discountenanced.
Thursday marked the fifth anniversary of Ngiges abduction from office by his political opponents who tried to force him to quit his job as governor. His tenure as governor was later annulled by the courts that said his election in 2003 was irregular.
A story that went round town in Awka on Thursday in Awka had it that Ngige was attacked by six gunmen.
Ngige said rather than being shot, he was hale and hearty both in mind and in spirit." He said it was only God that could take life.
Chukwuelobe confirmed that he had received phone messages from his boss at about 6.00am on Thursday morning after he had spoken with him the previous day.
Chukwuelobe who wondered why the rumour started in the first place, observed that it showed that his bosspolitical foes were still trying to nail him.
Mr. Charles Amilo, who served as commissioner for information under Ngige, said he also receiving several phone calls from friends and politicians demanding confirmation of the alleged attack on Ngige.
