Teachers across the country have since last week Monday shunned classes to protest the non-implementation of the Teachers Salary Scale (TSS), as agreed with the Federal Government. The teachers' umbrella body, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), at a rally in Lagos, maintained they were sticking to their guns until the government implements the disputed TSS.

Alogba said teachers were tired of government's rhetoric, adding that the teachers' union won't shift its grounds until government budges. The union leader said government raised their hopes; 'but I want to announce that our hopes have been dashed. And it is for this we want to affirm that there will be no retreat no surrender, until the reality of TSS sees the light of day."

As at press time, the protesting teachers embarked on a procession around the city, where they planned to picket 'big-time" private schools for not allowing their teachers join in the industrial action.
