The Executive Secretary of Ifako/Ijaiye Local Government, Engr. Richard A. Akinpelu, made the declaration in Lagos on Monday, while speaking with newsmen who sought his views on the performance of the present National Assembly compared to the past one.
Akinpelu, whose tenure saw the local government winning the Best Local Government in Delivery of Healthcare Services in Year 2007, applauded the courage of both the Senate and the lower House for their roles in the demand of Nigerians to know what went wrong in the past that led to the high level of degradation in the country. He urged them to be bold, and to step up their duties by sending all findings to the anti-graft agencies, failing which the country may further deteriorate.
'Honestly, and with all sincerity, the National Assembly has done well and you can see that without them everything would just look dark," he said. He called on them to make sure that all their efforts do not end up as an exercise in futility. Akinpelu frowned at the performance of the government at the federal level.
The council boss, who is one of the two chairmen selected in Lagos and among the 50 picked out of the 774 chairmen in the country for their outstanding performance, further revealed that governance at the state and local level is close to the people, 'but it is like some people do not want good things in this country."
