First Aluminium (Nigeria) Plc., was yesterday evening gutted by fire which was allegedly caused by an electrical fault.
The fire, which started at about 5 p.m., completely razed down the entire production unit of the company, destroying property and machines worth millions of naira.
P.M.News learnt that non of the staff of the company was around the premises as at the time of the incident.
An eye witness, however, said the discovery was made by some children who came to fetch water from one of the bore-holes within the factory.
A staff of the company, who pledged anonymity, told P.M.News that he could not confirm if the fire was caused by an electrical fault, as according to him, all the electrical gadgets were switched off before they left office on Saturday.
'We left here at 10 p.m. on Saturday after isolating the whole company. We don't just know how it happened," he lamented.
According to the staff, the fire brought down the roof as processed materials, products and cartons were kept at the upper chamber of the factory.
The General Manager of the company, Mr. Mike Okolo, who spoke with P.M.News, said he could not quantify the extent of damage.
'We can only know the extent later, but you can see that the entire roof and ceiling have been brought down," he said.
Mr. Okolo added that it was sad that none of the staff was in the office when the fire started.
He, however, praised the officials of the State Fire Fighting Service who promptly intervened.
'Thank God they came quickly. If not for them, the damage would have been worse," he said.
When P.M.News visited the scene, over six fire fighting trucks were seen with officials of the Lagos State Fire Service and those of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria frantically putting out the fire.
