The curtain finally fell on the life of second republic governor of old Rivers State, Chief Melford Okilo as he passed on at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa on Saturday

The curtain finally fell on the life of second republic governor of old Rivers State, Chief Melford Okilo as he passed on at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa on Saturday

Okilo also a former Minister and Senator was aged 75.

According to investigations, Okilo who had no house in Yenagoa was living in a property owned by a relative was rushed to the hospital when he complained of tiredness.
His family has declined to give details about his death and hospital sources said the cause of his death could only be determined by autopsy.

One of the deceased sons, who also double as his personal physician, Dr. Aranya Okilo confirmed his death and said the body has been moved to an undisclosed hospital in Port- Harcourt, Rivers State.
Dr. Okilo said his father left a legacy worthy of emulation, adding that he lived a fulfilled life as he was dedicated to the service of humanity.

Reacting to his death, the President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) Prof Kimse Okoko described him as a great Niger Deltan, who has contributed immensely not only to the growth of Bayelsa State but also to the Ijaw nation.
