THE Cross River State Government has ordered the immediate closure of the Obudu Ranch Resort.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism Development, Mr Gabe Onah, said yesterday in Calabar that the resort was closed for routine maintenance of facilities.
He said the shutdown, which is expected to last two weeks, was approved by Governor Liyel Imoke.
He said that the maintenance would be carried out by Doppelmayer of Austria, the engineering company that manufactured and installed the equipment.
Onah described the Obudu Ranch Resort as the "Flagship Tour Destination" in the state.
He said the ranch had crowded programmes as it would accommodate tourists who would attend the state's annual events in July.
"Also the ranch would receive visitors for the proposed Tinapa Soccer Fiesta featuring Manchester United and Portsmouth both of England," he added.
He said that in August government would celebrate this year's 'Leboku' (New Yam Festival) with the people of Yakurr Local Government.
Onah said the Obudu Ranch International Mountain Race would hold in November.
