As the local government election in Lagos State holds in October, two chairmanship aspirants have been reported dead in the old Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos state.

As the local government election in Lagos State holds in October, two chairmanship aspirants have been reported dead in the old Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos state.

P.M.News learnt that an Action Congress (AC) chairmanship aspirant in Ikosi/Isheri Local Government Development Area, Elder Bisi Bayo, died after he was attacked by an unidentified group of persons on his way from Ijebu-Ode, after a political rally. Also, another aspirant contesting under the same platform in Ikosi/Isheri local government, Hon. Adeleke Balogun, collapsed on Sunday, during the eight day prayer for the repose of the soul of Bayo. Balogun, who was rushed to a private hospital, was reported dead yesterday. P.M.News learnt that yesterday another chairmanship aspirant in Agboyi Ketu, Abiodun Oladipupo Akhigbe, was critically injured after he was attacked by unidentfied gunmen.

Investigations revealed that Akhigbe was attacked at his residence, 112, Demurin Street, Ketu. P.M.News further learnt that Akhigbe was returning home after a political gathering when he ran into the six gunmen. He was beaten blue black by his assailants who were bent on killing him. At the end he was left with an injured left eye and injuries in some other parts of his body.

Akhigbe and his sister, who were treated at a nearby hospital, gave thanks to God for sparing their lives. 'The sound of ‘Oun ni yen, e se lese' (meaning ‘that is the man, get him injured' ) was the last thing I heard. before passing out," he recounted. Akhigbe, however, promised to forge ahead despite the threat to his life.
