Property worth millions of naira were destroyed on Saturday in an inferno that burnt a storey building and the factory premises of Princess Paint Nigeria Limited at Ilogbo Road, Ilogbo, Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State. No life was lost but at least three persons were said to have sustained injuries.
According to an eyewitness, the fire started around 1p.m. and burnt till 9.00p.m. She claimed that the fire was caused by a tanker off-loading kerosene in the factory premises.
'How the fire started is what I cannot explain; all I know is that the fire was caused by the tanker," the source said.
The account was corroborated by the Account Manager, S. A. Badmus, who told Daily Sun that the off-loading of the substance was going on when in the process, the hose fell off its hook.
'But the mistake the driver made was that instead of putting off the engine, he attempted to fix it like that and in the process, it ignited fire that consumed the whole company."
The account manager said that several millions of naira worth of equipment and manufacturing materials were destroyed by the inferno.
Among the destroyed things were the one-storey building housing the managing director's office, another bungalow, two giant generating sets, the tanker, chemicals, produced paints, etc.
Daily Sun gathered that sympathizers assisted the company workers to put out the fire and saved some items during which three persons sustained injury.
A source told Daily Sun that the tanker driver has been arrested by policemen from Ilogbo-Elegba Post.
