Police arraign two suspects for kidnapping pupil


For allegedly kidnapping a 12-year-old pupil, Adewale Adeniyi, two suspects, Azeez Abideen (28) and Jimoh Laniran (22) have been arraigned before an Osogbo magistrate‘s court.

For allegedly kidnapping a 12-year-old pupil, Adewale Adeniyi, two suspects, Azeez Abideen (28) and Jimoh Laniran (22) have been arraigned before an Osogbo magistrate‘s court.

The charge sheet read in court on Thursday stated that Adeniyi was kidnapped at LA Primary School, Gbobamu area of Ilobu community on June 17, 2008 at 7:30 am.

Police prosecutor, Corporal Oladoye Joshua, informed the court that some members of the Oodua People's Congress tracked down the suspects, following a tip-off.

Joshua said a motorcyclist, who smelt a rat when the kidnap act was being perpetrated, informed the OPC members, who gave the alleged kidnappers a chase.

Defence counsel, Messrs Rotimi Akintola, and O Olaniran, pleaded for the bail of the suspects, assuring the court that they would provide reliable sureties.

Both suspects entered a not guilty plea to the two-count charge of conspiracy and kidnap.

The lawyers maintained the innocence of the suspects even as the stressed that the alleged offence was bailable.
