One of the two factions in the Anambra State People's Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the party's South East Reconciliation Committee Chairman, and former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo of doctoring the committee's report submitted to the PDP national secretariat.
Factional chairman of the party, Mr. Bright Nebedum also alleged that Nwobodo committee was lopsided in its assignment as it did not represent the true position of things in the party.
Nwobodo's committee had recommended that a fresh congress be held in Anambra PDP to restore peace in the party in the state, a position the Nebedum faction rejected.
But Nebedum told newsmen Tuesday that Nwobodo had in his recommendation to the party national secretariat refused deliberately to reflect 'the true position of things in the state," alleging that he 'cleverly defaced pages one and two of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) report on Anambra Congress" which he (Nwobodo) attached to his recommendation to PDP Headquarters.
Nebedum, who was the product of the said congress, stated that the two defaced pages gave explicit position of state congress, just as it has the proofs that the court injunction which the other faction claimed restrained the conduct of the congress was actually served the party after the congress.
'Nwobodo had contravened article 12.8 of PDP constitution and had gone to work outside his terms of reference in his assignment in the state and now he has doctored the INEC report which stated the through position of things in Anambra," he said.
'Nwobodo," he noted, attached INEC's report on the state congress in Anambra to his recommendation to the leadership of the party but cleverly removed pages one and two of the report which gave details of what transpired in the state congress that drives home our point.
'We want peace in Anambra PDP. We are law abiding, we love our party and our loyalty is not in doubt but will not accept victimization by any aggrieved personality. We have confidence in the leadership of the party because they have regards for the rule of law which is the hope of common man."
Stressing that Nwobodo's alleged action was not really fraudulent but done in bad faith, Nebedum expressed confidence in the National Working Committee of the party as well as the leader, President Umaru Yar'Adua for his faith in rule of law.
'I don't know what else we are waiting for to confirm the lopsidedness of Nwobodo's report on Anambra State. I said it before, that Nwobodo is pursuing vendetta and wants to create more confusion in Anambra PDP," he emphasized.
But in a swift reaction Nwobodo who spoke through one of his aides, Mr. Geoffrey Uguru said the allegation was not only baseless but an insult on his person and status in the party and country.
'We are 14 members that came to Anambra state and 13 signed the recommendation. One person, a lady did not sign because she gave a minority report on the party. So what Nebedum is saying that the rest of them are all fools. The distinguished Senator would not want to go into bandying word with people, because we basically came to restore peace in Anambra state and that is what we are doing and will not be discouraged by such frivolous allegations."
