Tension has enveloped the National Assembly as plot, intensifies to frustrate the Clerk, Alhaji Nasiru Arab out of his job.

Daily Sun sources revealed in Abuja on Sunday, that some faceless interest groups were mounting pressure both from within and outside the National Assembly to sack the Clerk at all costs.

It was gathered that part of the strategy employed by the groups was to insist that Arab, presently head of management of the National Assembly had attained the maximum retirement age, based on length of service.

However, it was learnt that the aspect of Arab's service year being regarded as part of his paid employment was the Clerk's period of temporary employment and vacation jobs which is being counted as part of his length of service.

Another strategy, it was learnt, was the group's relentless lobby of the Senate leadership, to relieve Arab of his appointment formally. Our correspondent also gathered that the arrowhead of the plot, is another very senior management executive of the National Assembly.

The source stated that what the official wanted was 'a taste of the plum office before bowing out of public service."
Contacted for his comments on the alleged plot, Alhaji Arab pleaded that he should not be drawn into making any comment as this was against civil service rules.
Said he: 'I am a civil servant. I have nothing to say. I am to be seen and not heard. I am paid to do my work."
