Burnt Tankers Obstruct Traffic At Badagry Expressway

The continued presence of two tankers which caught fire on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway on Monday night, has led to a traffic gridlock on the highway.

The continued presence of two tankers which caught fire on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway on Monday night, has led to a traffic gridlock on the highway.

The tankers, which are still smouldering as at the time of filing this report, ran into each other due to the carelessness of both drivers. P.M.News gathered that the two tankers, loaded with fuel, collided when one tried to overtake the other. A source at the scene, Mr. Akeem Ajibowo, told P.M.News that the accident did not claim any life and no one was injured because it happened late in the night. 'Thank God, it happened at night when people, especially traders, had returned home. When it happened, the drivers fled," he said.

Another witness, Mrs. Dupe Savage, said: 'Don't mind the stupid drivers. One was trying to overtake the other who refused to be overtaken when they lost control," she explained. The accident was not the first this week; there was another one at Aradagun junction in which two commercial motorcyclists (Okada) collided in the early hours of yesterday. Earlier in the week at Oko-Afo Bus Stop, a car loaded with groundnut oil collided with another car. The accidents were confirmed by traffic officers at the Okokomaiko Police Station. Residents and motorists have called on officials of the local government concerned to remove the tankers and put an end to the traffic gridlock.
