Two drug suspects, Solomon Laz and Ononiboh Chinedu, both 25 years old, have been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency with 157 wraps of cocaine which they ingested.
The Head, Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said this in a statement on Thursday.
According to the FCT Commander of the Agency, Alhaji Hamzar Umar, the traffickers were arrested on June 7 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport during the screening of passengers on a KLM flight from Abuja to Amsterdam, Holland.
Laz, who was on his way to Madrid, Spain, where he worked in a vegetable farm, reportedly ingested 76 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.4 kgs.
The 25-year-old trafficker was promised 3,200 euros by his sponsors.
Ononibah, who also works as a labourer in Spain, stated that there was no agreement for him to be paid any fixed amount of money for trafficking in the illicit substance, rather he said he did it to offset the N200,000 he borrowed from a friend in Spain.
'My friend assisted me with N200,000 when I was in a financial difficulty because I was robbed of all my belongings. When I was to go back to Spain, he bought my tickets and requested that in return for his assistance, I should help him bring the drugs to Valencia," he confessed
Both suspects hail from Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.
Laz was found to have ingested the drugs in a hotel at Okota area of Lagos, while Ononibah swallowed the deadly substances in a hotel in Festac Town, also in Lagos.
After ingesting the drugs in Lagos, they both decided to travel through the Abuja airport. While Solomon took a night bus, Ononibah took a flight from Lagos to Abuja.
