Two students feared dead as LASU shuts down


As at yesterday, academic activities at the Lagos State University were put at a halt, following the outburst of crisis that erupted on Tuesday evening between the students and the indigenes of Iba Community.

The mayhem that erupted between the students of the school and the villagers is reported to have taken the lives of two students, although the students' leaders put the casualty list at three.

According to information gathered by Saturday Sun, on Tuesday evening, a female student of the University was knocked down by a commercial bus, belonging to an indigene of Iba. On sensing danger, the driver was reported to have escaped took to his hide, but was soon caught by some angry students who ended up assaulting him.

In a bid to get his revenge, the driver was said to have mobilized Oro cultists and some members of the OPC for an onslaught on the students residing within Iba and Agboroko Communities.

Announcing the closure, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abisogun Leigh stated that parents should warn their children and wards entering the campus until further notice.

The VC explained that the closure of the Ojo main campus has nothing to do with the other campuses of the university at other parts of the Lagos.

Some of the students, who spoke to Saturday Sun however claimed that the hoodlums had invaded their hostels at night, leaving so many students wounded while some were taken away, and their whereabouts yet unknown.
The students further informed Saturday Sun that the hoodlums had acted on the instructions of the Oba of Ojo.

Godwin Moruf Abiodun, a student of the Department of Political Science said some students coming from Iba and Iyana Ipaja to school were forced down from buses, taken back to the town, and assaulted. He revealed further, that some girls as at yesterday were raped.

Commenting on the incident, the President of LASU, Student's Union, Mr. Raji Banjo a.k.a Basskido informed Saturday Sun, that because of the inhuman treatment meted to the students by the Oba of Iba and the unrest in that Community, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abisogun Leigh has called off the on-going examination and has pleaded with students to go back to their various homes until further notice.

He also said three students had been confirmed dead and two others on danger list in an undisclosed hospital.

"The attack on students is still going on" he said "we cannot give the exact number of students still missing", he added further.
Mr. Banjo, called on the Lagos Governor to immediately remove the Oba. According to him, the Oba is meant to be a father and not the killer of the children, he is supposed to protect.
