Ribadu Demoted

This may not be the best of times for the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Malam Nuhu Ribadu as he was said to have been demoted.

This may not be the best of times for the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Malam Nuhu Ribadu as he was said to have been demoted.

Unconfirmed report reaching P.M.News this morning stated that the present student of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) has been demoted from the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).

A source at the Police Service Commission, Abuja told P.M.News on phone this morning that it was true that the commission was reviewing the appointments and promotions of top officers, including Nuhu Ribadu, but would not want to jump the gun.

The source, however, revealed that the Police Service Commission was already sitting over Ribadu's case as at the time of this report.
According to the source, 'Ribadu has stepped on toes, many officers in the Nigerian Police cannot tolerate his arrogance and confrontational nature. They believed he is so full of himself as he hardly pays compliments to his colleagues and seniors."
The source said that it was believed that Ribadu's triple promotion from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to Assistant Inspector General of police (AIG) by former Inspector General of Police, Sunday Ehindero, got into his head.

The rapid promotion, which was said to have been at the behest of former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, was seen by the Police Service Commission as being against the due process of promotion in the Nigeria Police.

Mallam Ribadu's rapid promotion was said to be very premature as he ought to have graduated from the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) before being promoted DIG.

Apart from Ribadu, over 100 officers who were rapidly promoted by Mr. Sunday Ehindero are also facing the same fate before the Police Service Commission.

Contacted on phone to confirm the story, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) ACP Akperebi Akpoebi said: 'I heard it like every other Nigerian. I am not in the position to confirm the story."
