I can't be distracted by negative reports - AGF

Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Michael Aondoakaa (SAN) said he cannot be distracted by negative media reports in carrying out the mandate of deepening the culture of rule of law in the country placed on him by President Umaru Yar'Adua.

Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Michael Aondoakaa (SAN) said he cannot be distracted by negative media reports in carrying out the mandate of deepening the culture of rule of law in the country placed on him by President Umaru Yar'Adua.

The minister who said he has no skeleton in his cupboard was reacting to the spate of media reports against him since assumption of office, said he is determined more than ever before in fighting injustice and ensuring that government activities are conducted within the ambit of the law.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Special Duties, Mr. Onov Tyuluugh, the Minister described such reports as blackmail and mischief by some disgruntled people who are out to distract him from performing his constitutional responsibilities.

According to the statement, "such spurious and wild allegations against the person of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa (SAN) are made with a wicked intention of impinging on his integrity and to distract him from discharging his responsibilities in enthroning and sustaining the rule of law which is one of the cardinal principle of the present administration."

The statement noted, "but for the larger society, whom the authors of these mischievous campaign against the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation has set out to beguile, the reports would have been ignored as the Pull him Down Syndrome (PHD) of some disgruntled elements."ù
Mr. Tyuluugh explained that since the assumption of office, "the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation has shown commitment to the fight against corruption and embarked on a number of programmes and policies aimed at deepening the culture of the rule of law which was bastardized by past regimes."

He called on the media not to allow itself to be used by some mischief-makers who are out to protect their selfish interest.
