Let me fight for shirt - Sodje begs Amodu

Reading of England's strongman, Sam Sodje, has appealed to Super Eagles' Coach, Shiabu Amodu, to give him a chance to fight for a shirt in the team.

Reading of England's strongman, Sam Sodje, has appealed to Super Eagles' Coach, Shiabu Amodu, to give him a chance to fight for a shirt in the team.

Sodje, who's one of the 50 players Amodu forwarded their names to FIFA for the World Cup 2010 campaign, said his presence in the Eagles' defence would further strengthen the team.

"I watched the Eagles' match against South Africa and I was highly impressed," Sodje said. "But I can put my wealth of experience in making the defence more solid.
"I have no problem with the players, but let the coach invite more defenders to fight for shirts. What we have now in the defence is not the best Nigeria can offer."

After playing for Reading in the English Premiership last season, Sodje said he had acquired the pace and ruggedness needed in the Eagles.
"I played well with Reading last season and I will continue to do well. If the Eagles' coaching crew would give me a chance, I will show Nigerian football fans how good I am. I'm in the 50-man list, which Coach Amodu sent to FIFA, but I can't pick up the phone and call the coach to invite me to play for the team. I play in the Barclay Premiership and Shittu, who plays in a lower division, is among the top players in the Eagles. Let the coach just give me a trial."

Sodje lamented that he had scored some vital goals for his club in England, but he had yet to pick a place in the national team, while Adejare, who scored just a goal against Chelsea in the FA Cup had made his debut in the Eagles.

"I'm appealing to the coaches to extend invitation to more people even if it means telling us to pay our way to the camp. We are not talking of money now, rather, we want result for the national team. Every coach who wants to succeed must always go for the best legs in his country."
