Barely one week after its meeting was deadlocked in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, the five Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors in the South West yesterday met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his hill top mansion in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

Sources closed to the meeting told Saturday Sun that the meeting which was at the instance of the governors was aimed at persuading the former President to step down as Chairman of the Board of Trustee of (PDP).

Similar meeting took place in Ibadan last Saturday where the frosty relationship between Governor Daniel and Obasanjo were discussed but inconclusive.

The governors had all arrived before 11am at the Ogun State Government House where they held a brief meeting which lasted for about one hour before proceeding to Obasanjo's multi-complex building which was dedicated last December.

The meeting in Obasanjo's house, however, ended at about 2.15pm with the governors returning to the Ogun Government House for lunch and another meeting.
It was further learnt that the governors had resolved to persuade Obasanjo to step from the exalted position because of the emergence of the House of Representatives Speaker, Mr. Dimeji Bankole who also hails from Ogun State.

This, according to the governors, has completely destroyed the zoning formula of the (PDP), making it inevitable for the former President to relinquish his position.
It was also gathered that the governors were of the opinion that the emergence of Bankole and Obasanjo from the same town, Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, had short-changed other states in the South-west in the sharing of party and political offices within the ruling PDP.

Obasanjo, Saturday Sun learnt, was not favourably disposed to the arrangement, but he was yet to disclose his position on the suggestion to the governors during the meeting which ended at about 3 12p.m. yesterday.

If the former President heeds the piece of advice of the governors, he may be tempted to send his resignation letter to the chairman of the party, Chief Vincent Ogbulafor.
