PPA chief commends Yar'Adua, seeks more concrete plans

As the present administration marks its one year in office, a chieftain of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) has commended President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua on the present administration's respect for the rule of law, even as he urged the president to take concrete steps that would take the country into the promised land.

As the present administration marks its one year in office, a chieftain of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) has commended President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua on the present administration's respect for the rule of law, even as he urged the president to take concrete steps that would take the country into the promised land.

Deputy National Chairman of the party, Lisa Olu Akerele, said Yar'Adua has shown, through his administration's respect for the nation's constitution, that democracy was on a sound footing in the country.

Akerele, who is also leader of the party in the South West, observed that since Yar'Adua's swearing-in, the executive has restrained from breathing down the necks of the other two arms, giving both the legislature and judiciary enough independence to function properly under the present democratic set-up.
'Since his swearing-in, Yar'Adua has never interfered with the judiciary. The administration obeys court orders and that is commendable," he stated.

He, however, urged the president to gird his loins in the second year of his administration so as to be able to realize his dreams of taking Nigerians to the promised land.

His words: 'Yar'Adua said he has been doing a lot of planning in the last one year. As he begins his second year, we want to see those plans begin to metamorphose into concrete achievements.
The president should begin to tackle those areas where the people of this country are suffering."
