Former minister for Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, has identified faulty strategies on the part of successive administrations as the reason for the nation's under-development.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Sun, he maintained that until this anomaly was corrected, the country will continue to trail its peers.
According to him, examples from developed countries clearly show that instead of tackling problems from the base, successive Nigerian government, did from the top.
Ogunlewe maintained that with this kind of strategy, Nigeria will continue to get it wrong, while its citizens will also suffer the more.
He noted that this was one of the reasons why the Yar'Adua had not been able to take care of the problems facing the power sector.
'I think he (Yar'Adua) does not know the depth of what has gone wrong, what has gone right and what is available," he said.
The former lawmaker stressed that if all these had been available, the Federal Government would have been better placed to handle the issue.
Ogunlewe, however, expressed the conviction that the recommendations of the probe panel by the House of Representatives will help in addressing the problem.
Speaking further, he scored the Yar'Adua administration well, describing his first year as a good beginning for the government.
He particularly lauded the Federal Government's adherence to the rule of law, despite daunting challenges it had to face.
'The rule of law is a complex terminology and the definition is too vast, but he is trying to concern himself with the provisions."
The former Works minister also opined that the president has done well so far regarding his promise to fight corruption.
He, however, disagreed with many regarding the president's office and the handling of corruption, insisting that it was not his business to tackle the monster.
'There are agencies that are responsible for that. What he needs to do is to strengthen the law to make sure agencies responsible do their work, without interference from the presidency," Ogunlewe said.
