Oruma confirms Marseille exit...Rules out retirement

France-based midfielder, Wilson Oruma has confirmed that he's on the verge of clinching a new deal with another club after his Ligue 1 outfit, Olympique Marseille refused to renew his contract.

France-based midfielder, Wilson Oruma has confirmed that he's on the verge of clinching a new deal with another club after his Ligue 1 outfit, Olympique Marseille refused to renew his contract.

The former Golden Eaglets skipper, who has spent most of his professional career in France, has been told that he would not have his Marseille contract extended, following his turbulent season chequered largely by injuries.

However, speaking live on Sports Radio 88.9 Brila FM on Monday, Oruma vowed to bounce back in the coming season, following interest in his signature by Grenoble, who gained promotion to the French top flight penultimate weekend.

"I think my three years with Marseille started successfully and ended successfully. For now, I am still waiting for the right offer.
"You know in our job, you just have to be patient and wait for the right offer, if right offer comes from outside France I will embrace it with all joy and happiness I just have to be patient and wait on God," he said.

The former RC Lens player who had a brief spell in Turkey with Samsunspur and Servette in Switzerland added that he's ready to quit the Championat if the right offer does not come from France, insisting as a professional, he should be ready to go wherever he can get the happiness and opportunity to carry on.

In the same regard, quitting football is not on the radar for Oruma, not in the nearest future, as the former Sochaux playmaker insisted he still has long years ahead of him to play the game.
"You cannot really tell where you will be next time or what will come your way. God knows the best for us. He is my role model.
"As long as he gives me good health and strength, I will still take time to stay in the game I love most. I think this is what I know best to do, to give people pleasure I will continue for more years to come," he said.

Oruma's words came on the heels of reports in the international media that he is on the verge of finding solace in the twilight of his career, as move to French second division champions, Grenoble has popped up for the former Super Eagles star.
Fortunately for the husband of Sandra, he has been offered a move to newly promoted Grenoble, with high hopes of better fortunes in Ligue 1 next season, after getting to play only a bit part role with Marseille.

Oruma, who was also part of the victorious Dream Team 1 that clinched gold at the football event of the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, took a look at this year's Games in Beijing, China and charged Coach Samson Siasia's history seeking under-23 side to go all out and repeat the 1996 feat.

He said dedication, determination and loyalty to the nation and the game are the key qualities they need to propel them to glory in China, while insisting that the team have a coach who has the knack for success and should thrive well in the Far East in August.
"I think Samson is a good coach, I hope he can keep the boys, give them the right direction. I think they should just keep it cool and I believe they can repeat the success of our team in USA. Nigerians should just pray for the players to do well," he concluded.
