Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Alhaji Aliyu Magatarkada Wamakko, has been declared winner of last Saturdays re-run poll in the state.
According to the election result released Sunday night by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Hassan Mustapha, Wamakko polled 562,395 votes to defeat his major opponent, Alhaji Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, of the Democratic People Party (DPP), who scored 124,046 votes.
The Citizens Popular Party (CPP) came third with 6,286 votes, while the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and Peoples Progressive Alliance (PPA) got 1,842 and 1,658 votes respectively.
The total number of votes cast was 785,682 out of which 87,320 votes were declared invalid.
Reacting to the result at a press conference yesterday, the Director General, Magatakarda 2008 campaign, Alhaji Ladan Shuni, said the outcome of the election had shown that Aliyu Wamakko remained the man to beat any day.
Alhaji Shuni stated that the opponents knew they could not win any election in the state, saying that was the reason they wanted to stop the election from holding.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi of DPP said his party had rejected the results of the election.
His words: 'We are not expecting anything different from what we have seen. We know INEC cannot conduct a free and fair election because the electoral body and PDP are members of the same family."
He said if INEC respected the law, the election should not have taken place at all since there was a case pending on it at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
'I hope the judiciary will sort out things when we meet in court on the 5th of next month," said the DPP candidate.
