While imploring other religious leaders across the country to embark on a similar action, King who is the Archbishop of Zion Outreach Ministries Inc said God in His Infinite mercy would always answer the prayers of the faithful.
The cleric who was speaking at a media parley in Lagos on his church's 47th National Miracle Night which comes up at Owerri on, Friday, May 30th 2008, said the special prayer for the nation which will hold simultancously with the church's programme was aimed at ensuring that the nation is spared the agony of hunger, famine and despondency.
Appealing to Nigerians not to panic, King however implored political leaders in the country to put necessary measures in place to ensure that there is abundance of food in the land.
'It is good to pray unto the Lord, and definitely God will listen to us. But while we appeal to God to spare our nation hunger and famine, our leaders should take concrete action to ensure that we have food in abundance. Of what use is prayer if we don't take action to back it up? It is not yet late in the day for us to avoid food crisis," he declared.
The cleric who noted that the nation is blessed with arable land urged government to give good incentives to farmers to cultivate large expanse of land where staple food items like cassava, maize, rice and yam can be planted on a large scale.
Insisting that one of the best solution is for government to rejuvenate the agriculture sector, King further advised political leaders in the country to embark on an enlightenement campaign to educate Nigerians to develop interest in farming.
'Although there is nothing wrong in importing food items into the country, but the most enduring solution is for our leaders to look inwards by ensuring that we take measures that will guarantee our self-sufficiency in food production," he declared.
Urging the nation's leaders to be God-fearing and service-oriented, King lamented that many leaders are pursuing parochial interests to the detriment of the electorate that voted them into office.
He further implored church leaders to embark on more crusades and evangelism to win more souls for Christ instead of laying emphasis only on prosperity teachings.
'Many church leaders today are derailing from the admonition of our Lord Jesus Christ to evangelise and preach the gospel to all nations. There is nothing wrong with prosperity teachings, but it should be remembered that salvation of soul and evangelism are equally important," he stated.
