The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the re-run governorship election in Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva has lamented the increasing drop in oil production in the Niger Delta region due to militant activities.

Sylva who expressed this worry at the palace of the Amananawoei of Ekeremor, Chief Gbaseimo Agbodo during the campaign rally at the local government said security problem is crippling infrastructural projects in the area.
According to him, peace is a necessary ingredient without which the state cannot progress even with the abundant wealth God had endowed the state with.
He lamented that the Ekeremor- Agge road project had been abandoned with contractors leaving the site because of militants' activities.
Sylva appealed to the paramount ruler to prevail on the youths of the area to ensure peace and stability, stressing that Ekeremor alone had the capacity of producing 5,000 barrels of crude oil per day which he said had been stalled due to security problems.
Meanwhile, Vice- President Goodluck Jonathan, former governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and former Chairman of PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih have urged the people of Kolokuma/ Opokuma to vote for the PDP in the May 24 governorship election re-run to sustain the peace already recorded in the state.
Jonathan in his remarks said the massive turn out is an indication that the people of the area were ready to return PDP back into government.
Anehin admonished the people to vote massively for the party, stressing that as home of the Vice-President, the party cannot afford to lose the election.
Alamieyeseigha in his speech described the duo of Sylva and Ebebi as young dynamic men capable of uplifting the standard of living of the people.
