Embattled co-ordinator of the Police Equipment Foundation, Chief Kenny Martins has drawn the ire of the Labour Party, (LP) over a statement credited to him that the Inspector-General of Police, Sir Mike Mbama Okiro advised him to bribe Mr. Festus Keyamo, a private legal practitioner, and Godson Esulum, one of the original brains behind the organisation with N10 million each, and two sports utility vehicles, (SUV).
In a statement issued by LP's National Chairman, Barrister Dan Nwanyanwu, the party expressed disgust at the allegations, as well as Martin's admission of executing the criminal offence of bribery.
The party boss stated that Martins' brazen admission of committing a criminal offence at 'this time in our fight against corruption is a clear testimony to the decay that has eaten deep at the top echelon of societal leadership in Nigeria."
The statement noted that the allegation was a ploy by Chief Martins and his cohorts to drag the name of Okiro into his 'shady deals under the cover of Police Equipment Foundation."
It further observed that such an act of blackmail will afford Martins, a window of opportunity for an undeserved escape.
Describing Okiro as a man with impeccable and unblemished credentials, the party advised Martins to look elsewhere for who to drown with.
'Sir Mike Okiro has gone through the mills to arrive at the pinnacle of his profession. He cannot fall cheaply for the machinations of the likes of Chief Kenny Martins, who appropriated a presidential agency 'to raise fund for the equipment and wellbeing of the police to a non-government organisation with controversial registration records at the corporate affairs Commission, (CAC), which is even a subject of criminal prosecution at a magistrate court in Abuja," the statement said.
