Hope for the eventual resolution of the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Imo State by the Senator Jim Nwobodo-led South East Peace and Reconciliation Committee, has suffered a major setback, following the absence of the major gladiators at the three-day reconciliation held in the Owerri, the State capital.
Daily Sun observed on Tuesday that such party heavy weight as Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu, Senator Francis Nzeribe, Chief Festus Odimegwu, the immediate past governor of the state, Chief Achike Udenwa and Chief Tony Ezenna were absent at the meeting.
Others, who equally shunned the trouble shooting forum, included the Ambassador Designate and former Aviation minister, Dr. (Mrs) Kema Chikwe, Ambassador Greg Mbadiwe, former PDP national vice chairman, South East, Nze Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Chief Charles Ugwu and Senator Slyverster Anyanwu (Imo North)
Trouble started when the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Nwobodo, ordered the Imo Women PDP to come in and defend their position paper already submitted to the committee.
But, feeling cheated and sidelined without any ventilation to air their grievances the political campaign outfit of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, the Destiny Organisation, led by the Campaign Manager, Okenze Slyvester Obinna, promptly moved straight to the venue of the meeting to lodge their grievances but were barred by security men positioned at the gate of the venue.
The scuffle that rose thereafter compelled Nwobodo to order all groups anxious to present their position papers to enter the venue of the meeting, but the warring factions continued to sing discord tares to press home their grievances. Nwobodo, who felt embarrassed by the actions of the party supporters angrily ordered all journalists at the venue of the meeting to leave the hall.
