Two people, a journalist and a Mobile policeman on Monday lost their lives when their boat capsized at Angalabiri, Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The journalist, Preye Valour, was a staff of Radio Bayelsa, Yenagoa but on secondment to the Ministry of Lands and Housing as the Press Secretary to the commissioner, while the policeman, Sergeant Monday Imoder, was the orderly to the commissioner.
They were said to be returning from a rally organized by the Commissioner, Mr. Ayakeme Whiskey for the re-election of former Governor Timipre Sylva at about 5 pm when they met their untimely death.
According to reports, they were in high spirits, with the policeman firing shots sporadically into the air to celebrate the success of their rally, when suddenly a violent wind swerved the boat, causing it to capsize.
Eye-witness account said the four passengers in the boat initially went into the water, but two of them were able to swin to safety, while Valour and Imoderi were not lucky.
The death of Valour has thrown the entire Radio Bayelsa into mourning because of his gentle nature.
Worst hit is his wife, who he just married two weeks ago. Efforts are being made to break the news to her.
At the Radio Bayelsa on Tuesday, most of the staffers were in shock over the tragedy death when Daily Sun visited.
