Leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), University of Nigeria, Nsukka has reacted to media report that some one was allegedly killed in the school premises and the beheaded head of the victim found in the school with a note beside it .
Reacting to the said report, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NANS, Mr. Collins Udeh in message signed by him and made available to Saturday Sun, noted that it was all falsehood as the victim was not killed within the school premises that rather, the
school community woke up to behold the dastardly.
Below is the full text of Mr. Udeh" message concerning the heinous crime. "I am compelled to sadly inform Nigerian students of the ugly incidence which occurred outside the campus environment of University of Nigeria Nsukka. It was on the early morning of Friday last week, when the University community, woke up and was greeted with an unsavoury sight of a beheaded human head with a note beside it.
The alarm raised by the students, who saw the human head which was displayed at the intersection around freedom square, alerted the University security department. The police and other security agents evacuated the human head and went into investigation which saw to the discovery of the other part of the body at Nru junction outside the University community.
In the afternoon of the same day two persons were killed in a beer parlour at Odenigbo area of Nsukka town, also outside the University environment.
The fact remains that these ugly incident never took place within the University Community environment.
The combined internal security agents and relevant security agencies are still carrying out investigation, to unravel the unresolved mysteries surrounding these ugly situations. So far there exist peace and tranquility on campus, as staff and students are going about their normal businesses.
It is vital to inform Nigerian students and the entire society, that since, Prof. Chinedu Nebo took over as the Vice-Chancellor for four years encountering peace and tranquility have remained the order of the day not until these incidents.
I wish to appeal to the entire Nigerians and students to shun violence and always give peace a chance, knowing that violence is not the answer to disagreement of whatever kind.
I call on all relevant agencies of government to facilitate actions and Programs that would ensure the institutionalization of a, conducive environment that would facilitate teaching and learning in our higher institutions of learning.
As the Public Relations officer of National Association of Nigerian students (NANS) zone B, we pledge our unalloyed disposition to bridging the gap between Nigerian Students and relevant constituted authorities.
Consequently, based on the collaborative approach of NANS, we call on all relevant agencies and well meaning Nigerians to assist this office in providing a student oriented solution to an entirely student problem but with a far-reaching societal consequence.
God willing we shall overcome this temporary glitch on our path towards a sustainable process of development.
