Soludo not indicted - AGF

Contrary to the impression being created in a section of the country that Central Bank Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo stands indicted by the findings of the panel investigating the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Michael Aondoakaa, says the panel investigating the investment of about $462 million in the AFC by the CBN has not, and cannot indict the Central Bank Governor

This was contained in a press statement released in Abuja yesterday and signed on behalf of the Minister by his Special Assistant on Media and Special Duties, Hon. Onov Tyuulugh.
This is contrary to reports in various newspapers (not in The Sun on Saturday) that the committee had indicted the CBN Governor in its interim report. In the statement the Minister stated 'The attention of the office of the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice has been drawn to publications in several newspapers indicating that the committee set up by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to investigate the AFC has indicted Professor Chukwuma Soludo, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria over CBN's investment in the AFC.

'We wish to restate that this is a fact-finding committee and its investigation is on-going. It has not completed its assignment, neither has it submitted any report. Consequently, the publications relating to the indictment or otherwise of the Central Bank of Nigeria's Governor are yet to be established, until the committee submits its report"

The statement went ahead to explain that the 'fact-finding" committee lacks the power to indict anyone as only a court of law could do so. 'In the era of Rule of Law, the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice is mindful of the fact that, issues of indictment are serious matters that require judicial pronouncement", he added.
